BVS Travel to Coast Union

January 29, 2026

Your Cate Rams took a long and scenic drive north to beautiful Cambria to face the Coast Union Broncos. The starting eleven featured sophomore Alejandro Sandoval between the sticks. The defensive back line was anchored by seniors Oliver Charvel, Kamil Abdul-Nafeo, and Alex Gallegos, along with sophomore Nicolas Wright De la Cal. The midfield trio consisted of seniors Charlie Dorion and Quincy Thorne, alongside junior Teke Meisel. Leading the attack was senior George Marin, joined by juniors Nolan Montoya and Miles Thompson.

The match was played on a beautiful but narrow and long natural grass pitch. It took the Rams a few minutes to adjust, and during that time the home side capitalized, opening the scoring in the 3rd minute to take an early 1–0 lead and energize the home crowd. The Rams quickly settled in, began connecting passes, and created scoring chances.

In the 7th minute, Teke received an excellent pass from George and found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper. He calmly slotted the ball into the bottom right corner to level the score. Just three minutes later, Teke returned the favor, finding a streaking George, who raced past two Bronco defenders and finished in the same corner to give the Rams the lead and open the floodgates.

George extended the lead in the 16th minute after being taken down in the box, earning and converting a penalty kick. One minute later, Kamil joined the scoring, dribbling his way into the box and finishing to make it 5–1. In the 37th minute, Quincy headed home a corner kick from George, and just before halftime, Quincy scored his second of the night off a cross from Teke to give the Rams a commanding 6–1 lead at the break.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Kamil scored his second goal of the day in the 45th minute with an unassisted finish. Miles added to the tally in the 54th minute, finishing off the night’s scoring with an assist from Teke to make the final score 9–1 in favor of the Rams.

Matches like this allow us to give everyone valuable minutes, and Nathan Koh, Jordan Ryan, Emil Arconian, Shirdon Nouh, and David Alvarez all contributed to help seal the victory. We stumbled slightly early on, but our response spoke volumes. The team played clinical soccer, controlled possession for much of the match, and adapted well to the challenging pitch. I’m proud of the way we continue to spread the goals and avoid relying on any one player.

The Rams will continue league play on Thursday with a road match at Bishop Diego at 3:00 p.m. Hope to see you there.
