Playing their third straight home game on Meldman Field before hitting the road for the next three, your Cate Rams hosted the Foothill Tech Dragons.
The starting eleven was as follows, Senior Quincy Thorne made his first start of the season between the sticks, The defensive back line was anchored by seniors Charlie Dorion, Kamil Abdul-Nafeo, and Alex Gallegos, along with sophomore Nicolas Wright De la Cal. The midfield trio consisted of senior Dimash Anuarbek, junior Teke Meisel alongside freshman Alden Rosenfield. Leading the attack were seniors George Marin and Kiy Barry, joined by junior Nolan Montoya.
The Rams offense was rearing to go and was looking to set the offensive tone early and take control of the match. They did excatly that, pressing the Dragon backline from the get go and creating scoring chances from the first minute. Your Rams put together an offensive display creating 5 good looks in the first 5 minutes but were unable to cash any in. In the 6th minute we began to hit our stride, Dimash found a clean passing lane and connected with Kamil who slotted the ball past the Dragon keeper to give us a 1-0 advantage. Less than a minute later, George pressed the defensive line, stole the ball and slotted the ball in the bottom right corner to double the lead in less than minute. George connected with a cross from Charlie for his second goal of the day and make it 3-0 Rams. In the 21st minute, Dimash went in for one of his amazing defensive challenges to disposes the opponents and was a little to aggressive in the eyes of the official and sent him off with a red card. You would think that playing shorthanded with a three goal cushion we would play it safe and defend our lead right? Nope, we switched from our 4-3-3- formation to a 4-3-2 and continued to press forward. George proceeded to add two more goals in the 36th & 38th minute assists Charlie (his second) and Kamil to five a nice 5-0 cushion at the half.
The second half began and George and your Rams were not quite done yet. George added his 5th goal of the game in the 51st minute when he collected a loose ball and deposited it in back of the net. Teke got on the scoresheet in the 55th minute with an unassisted goal but the biggest moment of the day came in the 77th minute when senior Jordan Ryan received the ball on the right side , streaked into the 18 yard box looking for his first goal of the season and was clipped from behind by a Dragon defender, Jordan stayed on his feet not giving up on a great scoring chance and the referee blew his whistle and a PK, George ran to retrieve the ball, ran to the spot and handed Jordan the ball. Earlier this season, Jordan found himself in the very same spot and in the same position. The outcome that day was not the one you want when taking a kick from the spot. However, today was a new day and JR was destined to change the outcome. With his teammates on the standing on their feet, he stepped up, approached the ball, struck it with the insole of his right foot and deposited it in the right lower corner as the Dragon keeper went the other way to score his first goal of the season and make the score 8-0 in our favor.
We came out with great tempo and agressively and were able to create a plethora of chances, we converted often and early. Losing Dimash early in the match posed a challenge for us but we rose to the occasion and preserved the clean sheet. We got some great contribution in the second half from Alejandro Sandoval, Oliver Charvel, Nathan Koh, Miles Thompson, Shirdon Nouh, Emil Arconian, and Aydan Barry. As we head down the final strech of the regular season, we need to focus and staying healthy and rested so we can be ready for the post season.
We will start a three game road trip next Tuesday when we’ll travel up to Cambria to face the Coast Union Mustangs. As always , thanks to those of you that came out to support us.
