Coming off an emotional win the previous night, Your Cate Rams travelled south for the second consecutive road game against a non-league opponent when we faced the Fillmore Flashes.
This was also the first time we faced this particular opponent and even though our team was experiencing some fatigue, they were ready for the challenge knowing the winter break was right around the corner. Similarly to the previous opponent, they attempted to come out aggressively and take an early lead. Your Rams were prepared. Both teams created offensive opportunities and the first 20 minutes looked like a heavy weight boxing match. Fillmore broke the deadlock in the 25 minute to take a 1-0 lead. We regrouped and immediately pushed forward in search of the equalizer but were unable to find it and the score remained 1-0 at the half.
At half time we discussed sone adjustments we needed to make and the team was confident we would come back and win this match. The second half was much like the first. The home team did everything they could to let the minutes tick away but in the 70th minuted Teke pressed forward from his center back position to join the attack. He found himself right outside the 18 yard box and received a ball in tight space, he proceeded to unleash a banger of a shot to tie the game, stun the opponents, and give us the momentum. After our goal, it seemed like the opponents tried to settle for the draw but our young men wanted the W so we pressed forward in search of the go ahead goal. it looked like we were headed for the tie BUT in stoppage time Kiy found a loose ball in the small area and in the middle of a scrum deposited the ball in the back of the net to make it 2-1 and give us another amazing road victory.
Playing back to back matches is not an easy task in futbol, our young men left everything on the field to secure the victory the previous night but they were able to dig deep and do it again last night. Often times after an emotional victory , teams will follow the next match with a drop in intensity due to fatigue, not this team. We are proud of the way we bounced back after being down and on the road. the grit they are showing is unbelievable. They are looking forward to the winter break and getting some much deserved rest. We will hopefully return with a healthy and full roster after the break to continue our positive streak and prepare for the post season.
