Cate 5 = 0 + 1 + 3 + 2
Royal 10 = 0 + 4 + 4 + 2
Yesterday, our Cate girls’ water polo team hosted Royal High School for our second matchup of the season. Earlier in the season, we lost 17-5 to this talented Royal group, so although the outcome yesterday wasn’t what we had hoped for, the improvement and progression from our group were great to see. Our girls executed our defensive-oriented game plan at a very high level, keeping us in the game and giving us a chance in the second half. We were able to get going offensively in the second half through structured and organized counterattacks, as well as confident outside shooting.
Violet Monda and Carmen Lack had their best games of the season. Carmen and Violet have great chemistry on the left side of the pool, and yesterday’s game really showed it. The duo was able to find one another in stride for easy scoring opportunities while having a constant positive presence on the defensive end of the pool. We had a terrific spark off the bench in the third quarter from Pari Malik and Caroline Held. The Juniors were able to come in with energy, each finding the back of the net and assisting one another. Their movement and understanding of where to be at the right time were awesome to see. Amber Lam had another outstanding showing, finishing the game with 14 saves. She saw a lot of shots from the perimeter and was able to get a hand on almost all of them. She contributed with great outlet passing as well.
I am proud of the fight and energy our girls showed during this game. They never backed down and showed up ready to compete. Looking ahead, our first game back from winter break will be on Tuesday, January 13th, against Villanova Prep. Go Rams!
