Cate GVS 0 – 2 Grace School

Saves: Kirra Tanaka (10)

Once again, we were short when it came to healthy bodies and big on heart. The Grace team was good, and physical, and we matched them, especially in the second half.  Goalkeeper Kirra Tanaka gets special credit for keeping the half to a 0-0 draw and tallying 10 saves from shots on frame.  It was so fun to see Tania and Analise take on girls twice their size and come away with the ball, starting counterattacks that led to real chances up top where Harper was waiting to take advantage of any and every opportunity.  The midfield ran themselves into the ground today, especially Violet Guilbert-Neal, Nika Iverson, and Precious Adjei, who all stepped in to support as Fiona Pan and Claire Bianchi get back to full strength.  I want to thank special guests Flora Adair and Jen Won, both making their varsity debuts as seniors, and truly putting pressure on the Grace team with their speed and physicality.  And finally, I want to finish by highlighting the ever evolving Lauren Hubbs and Coco Kliman center back dynamic.  They are making decisions all the time about keeping our shape, about when to step, when to leave space, who should press, which way to press, and how to drop.  All the time.  And those decisions are routinely the right ones, making a tough job look easy and inspiring confidence in our team.  Well done!  We will do our best now to rest, recover, wash hands, and be back at full strength in the new year.
