Cate Cross Country traveled to Lompoc for the Santa Barbara County Championships. It was a warm and breezy day, but that didn’t stop most of the team from setting personal records.
In the first race of the day, the boys Frosh/Soph race, Sophomore Jackson Kerr led the way, finishing in 18th place out of 110 runners. Jackson set a PR with a time of 19:18. Last year, Jackson ran 23:45 on the same course!
In the girls JV race, Freshman Carina Martinez improved her PR to 25:48, which was a two-minute improvement over her last race.
In the boys JV race, Junior Patrick Wykoff was our top finisher, placing 16th out of 90 runners. Patrick lowered his PR from 19:05 to 18:46.
The Varsity girls turned in a strong performance, led by Junior Sophie Black, who finished 12th out of 80 runners, setting her PR in a very fast time of 19:17. Sophomore Aggie McTigue (20:58) and Senior Carmen Lack (23:09) dropped minutes off their PR’s.
The last race of the day was the Varsity boys’ race, which was fast and featured talented runners from Dos Pueblos, San Marcos, and Lompoc. Junior Ati Zwieback ran right up front and finished in 6th place overall out of 100 runners. Ati’s time of 15:59 is one of the top Cate times on the River Park course. Senior Ian Schshenoff had a big PR running 17:45, as did Junior Jackson Muller, finishing in 17:43.
The teams run again next Thursday at the TCAA League Championships, which will determine if we move on to CIF-SS Prelims on November 14th.
