On Thursday, December 30th, our Cate boys water polo team traveled to Riverside Poly for a matchup against the number two seed in the CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs. The final score of the game was a 14-9 loss, ending a terrific season for our boys’ water polo team. I was incredibly proud of how our guys represented our school and our program on the road against a really talented Riverside Poly side. Foul trouble early, a monster whole set, and excellent passing made the difference for them. Falling behind early, our guys played their tails off and put up a terrific fight. Scoring five goals in the fourth quarter showed the resilience, grit, and togetherness of this group.
I want to acknowledge and thank the senior group who have transformed our program from a D5 to a D2 team during their time on the Mesa. Sebastian Brine, Jae Wykoff, Elliott Paige, Lucian Tann, Ashwin Patel, Tristan Maigret, Emil Arconian, and Eric Jin have invested themselves wholeheartedly into the growth of our team over the past four years, and we are forever grateful for their contributions. It has been an absolute joy and delight to see these young men grow as water polo players and as human beings. We will miss them immensely in the pool, and are excited to see what the future holds for them all.
Thank you to the Cate community for their unwavering support throughout this season; it means a lot to us all. We return a significant number of talented players to the program next year and are already excited for what we can accomplish going forward. Go Rams!
