Cross Country

The running Rams competed at the Dos Pueblos invitational on October 11th. It was a great opportunity for the whole squad to compete. Junior Sophie Blank finished 4th overall in the Junior Girls race while Miles Williams finished with a time of 17:31 in the Junior Boys race. The course was a great race for the JV and freshmen runners to experience their first 3 mile race course. Freshman Tyler Chen ran 21:06 in his first ever cross country race while Carina ran 27:47 in the Freshmen Girls race. Next race for the Rams is the Santa Barbara County Championships held in Lompoc next Wednesday (October 29th).

Girls Volleyball

This week volleyball headed into playoffs. They took Round 1 by storm as they swept Laguna in front of a raucous home crowd. Next up for the Rams is Castaic away on Saturday in Round 2! Go Rams!

Football

The #12 ranked Cate Rams and # 6 Thacher Toads renewed their rivalry for the 21st time. With the all-time series tied at 10 wins each, the Rams headed to Ojai as both teams closed out their non-league schedule. From the opening whistle it was clear this was going to be a back-and forth affair. The teams would trade blows until Thacher found the endzone with less than 90 seconds left, giving the Toads a 10-8 halftime lead. The second half would take the lid off the endzone with the teams exploding for a combined 63 points. Thacher snagged the win, 49-32. It was another good test for the Rams, who were facing their third opponent ranked in the top 10 in California. Head Coach Ben Soto offered the following observations following the win, “I see the improvement every week, we are competing hard. As a group, we need to be more consistent to make that leap to the next level. We will keep pushing to find that ability to execute to the best of our abilities on every single snap.”

Cate Rams celebrated their 9 seniors during the pre-game ceremonies prior to their Tri-Valley League contest with the Chadwick School from Palos Verdes. The Rams got off to a slow start, down 34-14 at the half. Sophomore running back Kunqui Wang took an end around all the way to the house on a 65 yard run, his first career touchdown. The final whistle blew and the Rams were left on the wrong side of a 55-20 score. The Rams will travel to Sage Hill on Friday night for their second TVL contest of the season.

Girls Tennis

After their dominant performance over Laguna Blanca during Fall Family Weekend, the team continued right into League Finals this week. During this game, they celebrated the 3 seniors, Elsie Chamberlain, Claire Bianchi, and Reyna Takahashi (a junior, but in her final year eligible to play tennis).

Across the last three seasons, Cate is now 47-3 overall, with the CIF D3 title in 2023, a CIF D2 Semifinal run in 2024, and a likely second shot at the D2 title in the coming weeks. Team playoffs begin Wednesday, November 5th.

Cate competed in the TVL Individuals tournament hosted at Cate. After two rounds, Lisa Hasebe and Ivy Huang won first place in doubles, and Elly Edwards and Chelsea Newlove took second place. Jade Wang placed third in singles. The winner and runner-up of both singles and doubles will qualify for CIF Regionals, also to be held at Cate, on November 24.

Boys Water Polo

Boys water polo heads into playoffs this week after seeing out the regular season. The team enjoyed two final league wins over Foothill Tech and Villanova, before a tough non-league defeat at home to Thousand Oaks. Coach Jesse Morrison believes, “this game will serve as a nice wake-up call for our group heading into the postseason.” Looking ahead, the playoff bracket is expected to be released in the next few days.
