Rams Fall to #3 Faith Baptist

On Saturday the Cate Rams played host to the Maxpreps #3 ranked Faith Baptist contenders at Meldman Field. The opening of the game was a bit disjointed as the Rams and Contenders both lost fumbles in the opening minute of the contest. As the Rams settled into their first drive of the afternoon, quarterback Sam Lambiotte connected with Oliver Charvel on a 24 yard pass into Faith Baptist territory. Despite the momentum, the Rams would fumble the snap on the very next play. The Contenders would drive down the field to the doorstep, before Barron Crayton and Andrew Jayiich would come up big stuffing a fourth down run on the three yard line. The momentum would be short lived as the ensuing Cate drive would once again stall out and Faith Baptist would start firing on all cylinders. Following a miscue on a punt deep in Ram territory, the Contenders would take it in on a 21 yard run. After the next Ram drive stalled out Faith Baptist returned a punt for a touchdown, putting the Rams in a 12-0 hole. Unfortunately, the Rams would once again fumble leading to another Faith score. With Faith riding a wave of momentum, the Rams had difficulty getting on track, finding themselves down 41-0 at the half. Coming out of the break, the Rams got a much needed stop on defense, led by sophomore Will Murray’s timely pass coverage and tackling. Lambiotte helped the Rams march down the field with a pair of nice runs and another deep ball to Charvel. Cate finished off the scoring drive with a 4 yard conversion from Lambiotte to Charvel, his favorite target on the day. The touchdown was the only score of the second half, with Faith Baptist emerging victorious 41-6. After the game, Head Coach Ben Soto remarked,”The only way to move forward from a tough loss is to watch the film and improve. Next week is our biggest game of the year, our rivalry game with Thacher. As we know, for that one, records do not matter. With the all time series tied at 10 wins each, we have everything to work towards next week.”

On Saturday October 11th, the Rams head to Ojai to face Thacher, 2pm kickoff.
