We are delighted to announce that Alysa Gerlach will join Cate later this month as Head of Finance and Operations (HFO). Alysa stood out among a competitive national pool of candidates for her strategic financial acumen, operational leadership, and commitment to aligning fiscal stewardship with mission. She is known for cultivating strong teams, fostering long-term sustainability, and leading with integrity and care.
With more than two decades of leadership experience across higher education, nonprofit, and private sector institutions, Alysa has managed financial operations for organizations ranging from $25 million to $3.5 billion. Her expertise spans finance, investment management, facilities, technology, and risk management.
Most recently, Alysa served as Chief Operating Officer & Treasurer at The Broad in Los Angeles, overseeing operations and championing initiatives that advanced belonging and sustainability. She previously held senior finance roles at Northeastern University and at the University of Southern California. Alysa holds a B.S. from USC and is a Certified Treasury Professional (CTP).
Alysa and her husband, Kevin Scanlon, along with their daughters, Maeve and Quinn, look forward to joining the Cate community and making Carpinteria their home.
We also recognize Sandi Pierce, whose decades of leadership — most recently as Assistant Head of School for Finance and Operations — have been integral to Cate’s success. In her expanded role as Assistant Head of School, Sandi will partner with Alex Lockett to guide the School forward, supporting our evolving needs and serving as a trusted resource for our community. And lucky for our students, Sandi continues to serve as an advisor and Long House dorm parent, in addition to the many hats she wears.
