Boys Varsity Water Polo Cate at Malibu

Yesterday, October 9th, our Cate Boys Water Polo team traveled to Malibu HS for the start of our second round of league play. This was the big game to put us in the driver’s seat for an outright league championship. After a back-and-forth first quarter, our guys played lights-out water polo for the next three periods. Unbelievable team defense and goalie play put us in position to win. Attention to detail and extra effort on the offensive end of the pool sealed it for us. It was amazing to see such outstanding leadership from our seniors and the mentality they brought into the second half. This group has come a long way, and I am incredibly proud of them.

Jae Wykoff was dominant as a center defender. Battling through a cold, Jae had a career-high ten takeaways. He put on a defensive masterclass that had coaches, officials, and fans pointing out his excellence to me after the game. Fletcher Prince and Sebastian Brine fueled our offense, racking up a combined seven goals and two assists. Fletcher utilized his size, speed, and strength throughout the game to create advantages, whereas Seb converted some clutch penalties and outside shots. Andrew Sheshunoff has been on a roll recently, and yesterday was no exception. The junior goalkeeper tallied eight saves and bailed us out several times when we had defensive breakdowns; some of the saves were made from point-blank range.

Heading into our last week and a half of the regular season, we are currently 4-0 in league play. Up next, we host Foothill Tech on Tuesday. Go Rams!
