Rams Dominate Rio Mesa, 18-3

September 16, 2025

On September 16, our Cate boys water polo team traveled to Oxnard for a non-league match with Rio Mesa High School. All fifteen varsity players made contributions toward a statement win. We jumped to an early lead from a stifling press defense, which fueled an aggressive counterattack. Our offense had been struggling through our first two games of the year, so it was great to see us put up a strong showing on that end of the pool.

Senior Sebastian Brine and 9th grader Liam Moes led the offensive charge for us with four goals each. They produced scoring opportunities in various ways and have begun to develop some nice chemistry together on the left side of the pool. Andrew Sheshunoff had his best game in the cage, allowing no goals in the second half. Notably, Andrew blocked a 5-meter penalty shot and single-handedly stopped a two-on-no-body counter. Senior Tristan Maigret had a great offensive showing, getting two goals to go from the outside. Finally, Junior Maddox Tanaka played lockdown defense at two meters and helped orchestrate some of our offensive attack.

Looking ahead, we have our home opener this Thursday against Oxnard High School. Come out and support. Go Rams!
