Rams Charge Past Oxnard in Home Opener

September 18, 2025

Yesterday, September 18, our Cate boys water polo team hosted Oxnard High School in our home opener. After a shaky start, our group was able to settle in and play some high-quality water polo en route to a ten-goal win. Perimeter takeaways consistently fueled our counterattack, which allowed us to pull away in the second and third quarters. Once we found our rhythm, unselfish passing and strong finishes sealed the deal on a great win. Solid team defense early this season has us yet to allow double-digit goals against an opponent through four games.

Sophomore Emmanuel Brine and 9th grader Liam Moes led the charge offensively with four goals apiece. Energy, effort, and a great understanding of angles and how to find opportunities helped these two stand out in our front-court attack. Senior Eric Jin played a fantastic game for us, making his presence felt in all three phases. One of his highlights was a third-quarter steal, coast-to-coast swim with the ball, drew an exclusion, and then tallied an assist.

Looking ahead, we travel down the hill to play our cross-town neighbor, Carpinteria High School, on Tuesday. We will be back at home on Thursday for a varsity-level only game against Moorpark High School. Go Rams!
