The Cate girls volleyball team hosted Louisville on Tuesday night (9/16) and, despite a slow start, pushed the visitors to the brink in the final set before dropping a 3-0 decision.
Louisville came out firing in the opening set, using aggressive serving and a strong attack to win 25-12. The momentum carried into the second, as the Lions stormed ahead 5-0 and never looked back in a 25-15 victory.
The Rams refused to back down, however. In the third set, Cate grabbed a 14-13 lead and later held two set points at 24-22 and 24-23. After several long rallies, Louisville narrowly escaped with a 27-25 win to close out the match.
“Silver lining of tonight’s match was that we responded well after being down 0-2 when most teams would’ve thrown in the towel,” head coach Jordon Dyer said. “We showed we could compete with a high caliber team and had a few chances to steal a set. The team stepped up to adversity after being down big, which was great to see. Senior Coco Kliman had a handful of kills with no mistakes and helped us compete in the third set. Senior Oyin Opawumi had 13 kills while also notching up 9 digs. Senior Evangeline Little had a team high 14 kills and passed steady in serve receive throughout the game.”
Set scores: 12-25, 15-25, 25-27
The Rams will look to bounce back on Thursday (9/18) when they travel to Villanova Prep.
