Lehman shines on the mound, Meyer’s squeeze bunt seals thrilling 1-0 win

The Cate baseball team clinched the Frontier League championship with a thrilling 1-0 victory at Dunn this afternoon.
The game was a pitchers duel all game long and was locked at 0-0 until the top of the 7th inning. With Dunn’s big and talented right hander out of the game, theCate offense found just enough of a spark in the final frame. Peter Lehman ‘25 dropped a single into left field and took second and third on a stolen base and error, respectively. Chase Meyer ‘26 brought home the only Cate run with a squeeze bunt with one out in the 7th inning. Quinn Pullen ‘25 had a double, while Josh Butler ‘26 and Alex Ke ‘27 had a hit a piece.
The story of the game was the outstanding performance on the mound from Lehman ‘25 and the Cate defense. The left hander went 6 and 1/3 innings, surrendering just three hits and striking out 7. Pullen ‘25 came in to slam the door shut and struck out two to close the game out. The Rams’ defense today was just about flawless. Noah Casbarro ‘26 threw out three would be base stealers, while Meyer ‘26 threw out the potential go ahead run from center field late in the game. Ethan Gibson ‘25 had a great play at second base to save a run in the middle innings.
This was about as clean and as fun of a baseball game as I’ve been around in my time on the Mesa. We were up against a scrappy team that had a dominant starting pitcher and hung in there. There were plenty of times when the momentum could have swung the other way, but we stayed confident in our abilities and weathered every storm. This is a resilient group and I’m proud of all they accomplished.
The Rams have a quick turnout, as they host rival Thacher on Thursday at 3:30.
