Mesa Update

Update 12/21/2017 10:00am:

The Thomas Fire started Winter Break early for students and faculty however administration and the buildings and grounds crew are back on campus returning to the normal work schedule.

Update 12/14/2017 4:00pm:

Fire is no longer visible from campus though CalFire is still working day and night to construct fire breaks in the foothills as a precaution. The School is still under evacuation orders though the roadblock is moving back towards Cate Mesa Rd and hopefully the cleanup of campus can begin soon.

Update 12/12/2017 11:00am:

Based on what we see this morning, the strategy of setting the backfires in favorable winds worked. Firefighters were busy early in the evening putting out concerning hot spots and spot fires, but the blowing embers that were so perilous on Sunday night were much less of a factor last night. Campus remains unharmed.

Update 12/10/2017 4:00pm:

As of right now, campus is still under mandatory evacuation orders but the School remains untouched by the fire. Fire crews have been stationed on the Mesa over the past 24-36 hours. We are sending a huge thank you to all the first responders who have traveled near and far to keep our community safe. More updates to follow.

Update 12/08/2017 9:00am:

We are happy to report that the winds were mercifully quiet last night. While the entire campus was (and remains) under mandatory evacuation, at this point the Mesa is safe and secure. Hopefully the winds today will remain in our favor. We could not be more grateful for the efforts of the amazing fire fighters.

The Mesa is safe and students are off campus and heading home. Based on the current and predicted future air quality, the inaccessibility of campus, as well as the unpredictable path of the fire, we have determined that we will not plan to open again until after the Winter Break. Throughout this situation our primary concern has been the health and safety of our students and the decision to close now for the break is made in that very spirit.
