Fall Athletics Recap

November 6, 2025

Cate Athletics has had a monster Fall season. To start, the girls’ volleyball team finished the regular season 9-6, qualifying them for the CIF-SS Division 7 playoffs. Since qualifying, they have made a deep run and are competing for a championship this Saturday, 11/8, against West Valley High School. The game will be played at Carpinteria HS to support a larger crowd and begins at 4 pm. Additionally, the volleyball team qualified for the state tournament, which begins next Tuesday.

Girls’ Tennis earned a third consecutive season sweep of Tri-Valley League play. The Rams finished the regular season 13-1 and secured a 14th consecutive CIF Playoffs berth, this year in Division 3. Across the last three seasons, Cate is now 47-3 overall, with a CIF D3 title in 2023 and a CIF D2 Semifinal run in 2024. They begin another title run this Wednesday in their first round home opener against local high school, Dos Pueblos.

Football begins its playoffs this Saturday, hosting a first-round match against United Christian Academy. The team qualified for the Division 2 playoffs after having one of the strongest strength of schedule ratings in the state, and finishing the regular season ranked #14 overall. Kickoff for Saturday’s playoff game will be at 12 noon at Meldman Field.

Boys’ Water Polo wrapped up their season this past Thursday. After going 11-4 in the regular season and capturing an undefeated league championship for the first time in school history, the team qualified for the Division 2 playoffs. After competing in the Division 4 CIF Championship just a season ago, this was a big jump for the program. They traveled to take on the number two seed, Riverside Poly, in the first round, ending their season by a score of 14-9.

Cross Country is nearing the end of its regular season, with League finals scheduled for this Thursday, November 6th, at 2 pm at Camino Real Park. This has been a season of personal bests for our boys’ and girls’ cross-country athletes, along with considerable team success. Early in the season, our boys’ team placed first and our girls’ third at the Twilight Invitational. Most recently, we participated in the SB County Championships, where we had multiple top-15 finishers among 80+ runners on both the boys’ and girls’ sides. Success at league championships will determine if we move on to CIF-SS Prelims on November 14th.

Ultimate frisbee concluded their season last week, ending it off with a come-from-behind win on the road against Dunn. Earlier in the year, the team competed in the “Back 2 School Hats Tournament”, hosted by Southern California Youth Ultimate on the beaches of Santa Monica for the first time as a program. It was a great experience for the group to compete in a new arena and environment. The team saw a massive turnout this Fall in participation and will hopefully be able to build around it in the years to come.
