Cate Boys JV Triumph: Stellar Fourth Quarter Dominance

Cate boys JV- 33, Fillmore – 23

The boys’ JV basketball team notched its first win of the season against Fillmore on Tuesday night. It was a great team effort as we found ourselves down by 6 at the half. The game remained close through the third quarter when the boys erupted for 17 points in the fourth as Coach Brandon wisely advised us to pick up full court. We got lots of easy baskets from turnovers, and it turned the game in our favor.

Big individual highlights for the following:

Jackson Steele ’27 – it’s worth coming to the gym just to watch Jackson handle the ball, but he finished with 11 points and 5-6 steals. Very impressive first game for this young man.

Ryan Lee ’24 – game-changing defense on Fillmore’s best player changed the dynamics of the game. Ryan finished with 4 points.

Liam Burdick ’24 – played a great game, grabbing 10 rebounds, scoring 6 points, and acting as a major defensive presence in the paint.

Elias Lieser ’25 – 3 block shots and 6 points were just part of Elias’ all-around good performance.

Ian Duterte ’27 – netted his first basket in the fourth quarter on a nifty layup when we really needed a basket.

Nordhof Prevails as Cate JV Faces Tough Battle

The pressure defense started to change the game in the second quarter as Jackson Steele put on a show with 8 points in the second quarter to almost singlehandedly bring us back into the game.¬†We went into the half down one, but we just couldn’t figure out how to take better care of the ball in the second half, and Nordhof figured out our pressure just as they were applying their own pressure defense.

Jackson Steele ’27 had another excellent game scoring 10 points and controlling the flow of our offense.

Jacob Zhao ’27 scored 4 points in the fourth quarter and looked much more relaxed and ready in this game.

Barron Crayton ’26 finished with 10 rebounds and 2 points as he continues to shake off his football muscles.
