Girls Soccer vs Dunn

April 28, 2021

Cate GVS 3 – 0 Dunn School

Saves: Taylor Kane ’21 (5)

Assists: Jolea Moes ’21 (3)

Goals: Rachel Ma ’22 (2), Moes

On Tuesday afternoon, the girls varsity team played Dunn on the big and fast lower field.  They played beautiful, purposeful soccer and moved the ball around their opponents, creating opportunity after opportunity.  It was lovely to watch and frustrating because as well as the team was playing, it was hard for our group to find the back of the net.  But then Jolea showed up in a whole new way.  She was involved in every attack, including each of the three goals; watch the video to see goal #2 in which she seemed to take on most of the Dunn defense one-on-one before putting the ball expertly into the side netting from the edge of the eighteen.  Another standout performance came from defender Tamsyn Taptich ’23 in the second half.  She just kept on winning the ball and then immediately finding the feet of her teammates. The third goal resulted from Tamsyn’s hard work followed by a pass up the left side to Tali Nam ’21 who quickly got it to (who else but) Jolea and Rachel put it away with complete composure.  In the remaining time, we were able to see younger players like Shannon Murray ’24, Mel Davidson ’24, and Ada James ’23 get in the mix and play in such a way that made us all proud. Senior Ryan Lack, who keeps insisting that she’s “not a soccer player,” stepped out onto the field and connected passes that proved her quite wrong. We have a video to share that shows the three goals, but it leaves out the seven (seven!) pass sequence through the midfield that was my favorite part of the game and the absolutely daring save Taylor Kane made to stop a breakaway and keep a clean sheet.

We have two big games on the horizon: Santa Clara away on Friday afternoon at 4p and Grace Brethren at home on Tuesday at 4:30p. If we can do well in these, we just might be in the running for league champs!
