Boys Soccer vs Dunn

April 24, 2021

Freshman Seb Sutch took two shots and scored two goals as Cate drew 2-2 with Dunn School in Los Olivos Saturday afternoon. Coming off a tough contest Friday night, the Rams were predictably flat to open their game against the Earwigs, allowing Dunn multiple dangerous opportunities in the opening minutes, which they capitalized on in the 11th minute off a header from a set-piece. That seemed to wake the Rams up, as they began to pressure Dunn into repeated turnovers. In the 20th minute, Peter Wood ’22 collected one of those turnovers and slotted it to Sutch just inside the top of the box, and he placed it in the upper right corner. Seven minutes later, Sutch struck again, this time a solo effort, making a Dunn defender fall with a brilliant move and then firing a rocket from outside the top of the box that dipped over the keeper’s head into the far left corner. Dunn reasserted themselves to open the second half, and equalized on another set piece in the 49th minute. Both teams had opportunities to score the rest of the way, but Cate’s defense was superb, blocking a half dozen dangerous Dunn shots inside the box. Along with Tyler Martinez ’24 collecting seven saves, it was enough to pick up a point in league play.
Last night’s loss at Foothill Tech took a lot out of us physically, and we were running on fumes today, which made our performance that much more noteworthy. Dunn was highly skilled and physically strong, but we scrapped for 80 minutes and took advantage of our chances. It was an inspiring performance, especially on the heels of last night’s game. These guys are smart and gritty, and it’s just a lot of fun to watch them compete.
We’re 2-1-1 on the season as we prepare to host our first home game this week – Thursday, April 29th at 4:30 against Santa Clara.
