Baseball vs Thacher

April 26, 2021

The Cate baseball team improved to 3-0 with a solid 9-2 victory over rival Thacher on Saturday, April 24.

The Rams faced a bevy of hard-throwing Toads and met each challenge well. Matty Holmes ’22 had a single, two runs scored, and an RBI. Emmett Mack ’23 had two hits, an RBI, and scored a run. Cooke Tarleton ’21 had a single and an RBI. Will Morse ’21 came off the bench to pinch run after Aidan Carlander ’22 got on base, and Will promply stole second. Two pitches later, he came around to score on a single from Holmes. The entire team put together some really quality at-bats and made Thacher’s pitchers work hard all afternoon long. The Rams were aggressive on the basepaths and put a lot of pressure on Thacher’s defense.
Daniel Panadero ’21 went the distance for the Rams on the mound and was dominant. The right-hander tossed a 7 inning, 2 hit, 8 strikeout, 1 walk gem. Holmes was rock solid behind the plate, blocking just about every pitch in the dirt. Panadero was helped out by some defensive plays from Tyler Tom ’22, John Endres ’22, Declan Forest ’24, and an incredible back-shoulder catch from Tarleton.
This was a fun one. Thacher has some very talented ballplayers on their side, and I think we did a nice job limiting their impact. We did a lot of the little things really, really well, which is going to help us win baseball games this year. I’m very proud of the effort and energy all of our players showed today. This was a true team win from start to finish.
Game 2 of the two-game series will be on Thursday, April 29 at Cate. First pitch is scheduled for 4:15.
