The Cate boys tennis team opened the 2020 season falling to Santa Barbara High 12-6.
The Rams # 1 singles player, and 3 time Tri-Valley League singles champion, senior Ethan Ha started right where he left off showing that he is again one of the top players in the area with three decisive 6-0 set wins to give the Rams 3 points. The Rams # 2 singles, sophomore Jinming Wang, earned two points for the Rams while dropping his last set 7-6 to the Don’s # 1 player. Freshman Jengus Ercil picked up his first point for the Rams in his first-round win at # 3 singles.
Despite winning 6 singles sets, the Rams showed their vulnerability in doubles unable to garner even one point. “My hat goes off to the Don’s,” Cate coach Jason Saltoun-Ebin said. “They showed tremendous heart and experience and poise under pressure winning all the close sets.”
Cate hosts San Marcos on Thursday at 3pm.
