Boys Varsity Basketball vs Eastside

February 13, 2020

Cate       22 10 3 18 – 53

Eastside 17 16 13 20 – 66
Unfortunately, the Cate boys basketball season came to a close Wednesday night in a first-round CIF Div 4A playoff game against visiting Eastside HS (Lancaster) 66-53.
The gym was rocking and by far the most exciting and well-played basketball half of the season for the Rams as they trailed 33-32 going into the half. In the first half, we executed our game plan perfectly. We knew coming into the game that Eastside had tremendous athleticism, which was on full display tonight. Senior Ethan Ng had the best first quarter of his season dropping 16 points and electrifying the crowd with a display of inside and outside buckets.
In the second half, we came out flat. We allowed Eastside to catch in rhythm and didn’t contest as well as we did in the first half and ended the quarter trailing 46-35.
Ng finished with 20, fellow senior Khadim Pouye finished with 12 points, and sophomore Nkemka Chukwumerije finished with 7.
Coach Gil Said, “I am tremendously proud of our guys. Having moved up a couple of divisions for playoffs this year we competed with a very good team and can carry our heads high. We lose seniors Scott Holmes, Khadim Pouye, John Shelburne, Thomas Nettesheim, Parker May, and Ethan Ng who I will miss tremendously.
Timothy of Eastside led all scorers with 21 points.
Cate finishes their season 15-5 (6-2).
