Girls Varsity Basketball vs Villanova

January 15, 2020

Cate: 13-9-13-12
Villanova: 6-7-9-6
The girls varsity basketball team (5-2) took on a tough and smart Villanova teamĀ  (5-3) Tuesday night at home. The Rams sought to set the tempo from the onset with a high-pressure, half-court trapping defense. Fortunately, our defense continues to lead to offense with many of our points coming off of steals and deflections. Leading the way in our backcourt defense was sophomore Meena Baher who had numerous deflections and steals. Senior Maya Blattberg led the way with scoring in the first half with 6 of her 12 total points in the half. The Rams were up 22-13 at the halfway point of the game.
We started the third quarter with a strong push from Blattberg and critical outside shooting from Baher. Our backcourt defenders–seniors Jess Yang and Maya Fenelon, junior Lily Zanze, and Baher–were incredible tonight in their ability to contain a really strong guard from Villanova. The Rams also had balanced contributions from Blattberg’s 12, Baher’s 8, junior Deb Brittain’s 8, sophomore Imani Oseso’s 6 fourth quarter points, Yang’s 6, Zanze’s 5, and senior Dana Huston-Chen’s 2 points.
We learned important lessons tonight and look forward to building on the positives on Wednesday (1/15) at 5:00PM at home against Providence.
Thank you so much for the support tonight. It helped energize and fuel us when we really needed it.
