Boys JV Soccer vs St. Bonaventure

January 18, 2020

Cate’s boys junior varsity soccer team finally got back on the pitch for the first time since winter break, falling to the St. Bonaventure Seraphs 7-0 on a cold, clear day in Ventura.
The Rams came out of the gate flat, surrendering a goal forty-five seconds in and another six minutes later. However, once we shook the cobwebs off, we found a bit of rhythm connecting the ball through our center midfielders. Despite our efforts, a more experienced Seraphs team that started several varsity players leveraged their skill to add on several times, taking a 5-0 lead into halftime.
Cate was led for most of the game by our eleven starters, who continued to play well, as they have all year, but coming out of half the Rams were also invigorated by fresh faces in freshman Aidan Carlander, Oliver Dworsky, and Alex Tang, who all provided some energy and pace. Alex was tenacious on the left side of the midfield, winning 50-50 balls and connecting with interior players. Also impressing were sophomores Jonathan Yoo and Zheng-Li Sieh, frreshman Brian Payne and Clayton Michaels, and, making his JV debut, sophomore Andrew Busse. The highlights of the game came very late, as freshman Timothy Zhang executed a vicious nutmeg on an unsuspecting Seraph and fellow freshman Danilo Gallardo shut down a potential run to the flag with a fearless and well-timed slide tackle on the unforgiving turf.
Your Rams should keep their heads high, as they showed determination and willpower in never giving in to a more experienced team. They resume play next Tuesday, 3:30 pm at home, against Foothill Tech.
