Boys JV Basketball vs Dunn

January 17, 2020

The boys shook off some first-quarter funk and proceeded to turn in three-quarters of solid basketball. We ran good sets, got good shots, switched defenses effectively, and generally gave Dunn fits with our defensive pressure.

Individual highlights are as follows:
Freshman Will Vanica finished with 11 points, 6 assists, and 4 steals, and he made some pretty moves to the basket to get those points. Further, he did a better job taking care of the ball as the game went on.
Sophomore John Endres finished with 4 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals, and he played unselfishly and hard at the shooting guard spot. He had two great steals, one of which he earned by playing in the passing lane and deflecting a pass, racing the length of the court, and finishing a nice one-handed lay-up–truth is, I don’t think I’ve ever seen John take a lay-up with two hands.
Senior Alex Kim played point guard, shooting guard, and forward over the course of the game proving his versatility. He finished with 3 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals. He made some great passes using his strength and vision to skip the ball over defenders, and he used his muscle on the boards to secure a bunch of contested balls.
Junior Daniel Panadero was on fire in the first quarter scoring 6 of his game-high 16 points. Daniel finished with 8 rebounds and 2 steals, and he looked like the aggressive offensive player and rebounder that we need him to be during most of this game.
Senior Kenneth Liou scored 6 points and grabbed 4 rebounds and 2 steals. For a young man who has not played a lot of organized basketball, he is using his athleticism to his full advantage. He’s also remarkably coachable and fun to work with.
Senior Chris Tarafa finished with 1 point, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals. He was a force under the boards, and he shares the ball effectively. It was nice to see him get some good minutes at Dunn.
Junior Adrian Binns finished with 5 points and 5 rebounds including his first three-pointer–a nifty bank shot. He’s got great feet and a nice scoring touch, so it was nice to see him get some time last night.
Junior Jasper Bennett finished with a double-double in his first game back from injury. He had 10 points and 10 rebounds, and he was an absolute force on the boards.
Freshman Jengus Ercil had a balanced line of 5 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals. He was a great presence on the defensive end of the court too.
Looking forward to a few more games over the next few weeks including our final game against Thacher.
