This Halloween should be a little less trick and a lot more treat for our Rams as many begin to look toward a CIF playoff run. Many teams are on the tail end of their regular season schedules, while one has already begun its quest to claim the top team in Division 6.
Volleyball opened up CIF playoffs with a dominant sweep of Duarte High School—a school of 2,700 students. Their second round contest will be Saturday night, October 26th at West Valley High School in Hemet, CA. Be sure to follow @cateathletics for up-to-the-minute notifications on the game.
As for the rest of our playoff hopefuls, football has two games remaining on their schedule as they hunt down a league championship before what we hope is a lengthy CIF run. The Rams will take on Faith Baptist tonight, Friday, October 25th. Today, cross country took their talents to the Mt. Sac Invitational—the largest cross country invitational in the country. The boys and girls teams are hoping to continue to show the competition that, although Cate may be a small school, they can compete with any runner in the state. “Girls tennis dominates.” That seems to be the headline for just about all the matches after the girls finish with an opponent. The team is eager to get to playoffs after completing a flawless regular season, highlighted by their first Santa Barbara County sweep in over five years—beating SB High, Dos Pueblos, and San Marcos. Water polo has seen great progress throughout the season. A young team that faced some adversity through tough competition and injuries early on has been rewarded with great wins over strong competition these last few weeks. The boys will look to finish a sweep of rival Villanova in their final game next Tuesday.
It has been a fantastic season to this point for all of our teams. We hope they will be cutting into the start of their winter seasons with extended CIF runs. Go Rams!
