Girls Varsity Volleyball vs Valley View High School

October 31, 2019

Cate made the long trek to Moreno Valley and took the first set against Valley View in the quarterfinals of the CIF-SS Division 6 girls volleyball playoffs. But the hosts picked up their game and won the next three sets to eliminate the Rams, 22-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-21, on Wednesday night.

The team played well and our stats were good, but looking at the scores I would guess Valley View’s stats were just a little bit better. Senior Grace Blankenhorn picked up 27 digs and sophomore Elise Guerrand-Hermes led a balanced Cate attack with 14 kills. Setters, senior Maya Blattberg and junior Riley Borchardt, each had nine kills and sophomore Chidera Chukwumerije had eight kills and five blocks in the middle. Senior Kenzie Davidson contributed six digs and three kills on the outside, while junior Grace Johnson, making a last minute switch to the middle for the match, tallied six kills with no hitting errors.

Too bad we couldn’t have accumulated frequent flyer miles because our back-to-back road trips tallied 650 miles.

It always hurts to lose but it really was a well fought battle. The team walks away from another great season and a first ever Tri-Valley League Championship!
