Baseball vs Pacifica Christian

May 11, 2018

The Cate baseball team picked up another big win on Friday, April 6, as the team took down visiting Pacifica Christian 8-6. The Rams move to 4-1 on the year.

The see-saw battle was tight throughout with both sides coming up with big hits and capitalizing on mistakes. The Rams lineup depth and attention to the little things proved to be the difference. Jack Deardorff ’19 had a big day at the plate for Cate, going 2-2 with two doubles. Little brother William Deardorff ’21 also had two hits. Dalton Phillips ’20 had two hits while Patrick Armstrong ’18 had a hit for the Rams. Scott Holmes ’19 had a single as well.
Deardorff ’18 got the start on the mound for Cate and went the distance. The right-hander struck out five Seawolves on the day, while walking just four and scattering seven hits. He was helped out with some great plays from Dalton Phillips ’20, who threw a runner out at home from left field, and Ethan Cassulo ’19, who blocked the ball well behind the plate all day.
“This was not our prettiest game but I’m proud of the way we “gritted” it out. There were times when we easily could have folded but our team rallied when we had to and I’m proud of their fight. The “little things” proved to be huge for us and I hope we remember that going forward,” says Cate coach Dave Soto ’08.
