Ben Soto Named Double-Goal Coach Award Finalist

February 22, 2018

This week Cate Head Football and Baseball Coach Ben Soto was named a national finalist for the 2018 Double-Goal Coach Award by the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) presented by TeamSnap. Soto is one of 120 finalists from a pool of 800 nominated coaches. “I am humbled by the nomination, but I am wise enough to know that it’s not about me,” says Soto. “What I am, and what I do and I how I do it is just a byproduct of so, so many great people that I have been blessed to be around.”

According to their website, the PCA gives the Double-Goal Coach Award to “youth and high school sports coaches from throughout the U.S. who embody the ideals of the Double-Goal Coach, striving to win, while also pursuing the more important goal of teaching life lessons through sports.”

From the 120 finalists, 50 will be selected as recipients of the award, which comes with a cash prize, a certificate, recognition on PCA’s website, newsletters, and media campaigns, and an invitation with guest to accept the honor at PCA’s National Youth Sports Awards & Benefit sponsored by Deloitte on April 28 at Stanford’s Maples Pavilion.

“For over 20 years, Cate has been lucky to have Ben Soto as one of our master coaches. His impact on decades of young people has been substantial,” says Cate Director of Athletics Wade Ransom. “All of us who have witnessed his unique combination of kindness, passion, and understanding as he uses athletics as a teaching tool for a successful life, realize how special he truly is. This is a terrific honor and we wish him luck in further consideration for this prestigious award”
