The Cate swim team competed against Villanova on the Mesa on Wednesday, March 29. Though the Cate swimmers dominated in many events, neither the boys nor the girls had the depth to overcome the numbers of the Wildcats.

Halie Straathof ’17 took the first win in the girl’s side of the meet by dropping nearly a full second in her 50 freestyle. She earned her second win in the 100 freestyle with a CIF qualifying time. The ladies continued their dominance in the sprints by winning the 200 freestyle relay with CIF consideration time. Tilly Bates ’18 won a close race in the 500 freestyle, dropping several seconds from her previous swim against Carpinteria. Unfortunately for the Rams, both JV and varsity came up short, losing the meet by 31 points and 28 respectively.

The boys’ side started off their meet with a win in the 200 medley relay comprised of Charlie Corman ’18, Kaiser Ke ’19, Marcos Brasil ’20, and Teddy Wecker ’17. Andre Pincot ’18 won the 100 butterfly in his head to head race. Shortly after Pincot ’18, Brasil ’20, Ke ’19, and Julien Maes ’17 won the 200 freestyle relay with a CIF consideration time. Victor Vasquez ’19 won the 100 backstroke, followed by Ke ’19 who won the 100 breaststroke. The boys finished off the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay but also came up short, losing by just five points.

The girls will face off against the always tough La Reina Regents on Wednesday, April 5 at 3 p.m. at Cate. Both the boys and girls will compete against Nordhoff on Wednesday, April 12 at Cate. That meet will begin at 3 p.m.
