Boys Varsity Basketball vs Mesa Grande

February 22, 2017

Cate’s boys varsity basketball team hosted Mesa Grande in a Division 6 second-round CIF basketball game on Saturday, February 18. The Rams came out of the gate hot and didn’t look back, marching to a 90-49 game.

It was raining both inside and outside the gym, as Cate nailed twelve first half threes to extend the lead early. Three by Marko Pliso ’18 and three by Freshman Khadim Pouye ’20 kept Cate comfortable all game long. Cate hit a total of sixteen threes for the game, by far a season high.

“Crisp, smart passing against Mesa Verde’s zone lead to open shots and we made the most of those opportunities. We were also able to get out and run off of long rebounds and turnovers,” said Cate Head Coach Andy Gil.

“We have kept the momentum going two games in a row and extremely pleased with the defense of Chase McCaw ’17 and Pierce Lundt ’17 to stop their best player,” Gil added.

Pliso ’18 led all scorers with 36 points, thirteen for McCaw ’17, eleven for Pouye ’20.

The Rams will continue on to the CIF-SS Quarter Finals on Tuesday, February 21 as they take on Pacifica Christian from Orange County. The game will be played at Sprague Gym at 6:30 p.m.
