Speedy Summer

August 15, 2013
Andrew Robbins '13 bests a competitor from Thacher during a spring 2013  track meet at Cate.

Cate rising senior Andrew Robbins ran a personal best Wednesday night in the Santa Barbara Nites Moves 5k race as a capstone to tremendous summer of hard work and training. Not only has he labored long days with the grounds staff at the School and gardened on the weekends in Santa Barbara, he has also trained hard for the upcoming cross country season, often running over 40 miles per week.

Robbins has raced well all summer, too, earning himself the Santa Barbara Running High School Runner of the Month for June , with his times hovering in the mid-17s to low 18s minutes for the 5k. Last night's race saw him shave 17 seconds off of his personal record of 17:32 for a speedy 17:1– averaging just over 5:30/mile for the rolling 3 mile course.

Nite Moves is a weekly event in Santa Barbara from May through September, offering runners a challenging and scenic course along the city's waterfront and Mesa.

Robbins is a three-season athlete, who competes in cross country, soccer, and track and field.
