The U.S. Olympic Committee makes Coach of the Year honors in each of their 44 Olympic and Pan American games sports in three categories. In receiving this award, all three coaches are also nominated to be selected as the USOC Coach of the Year among all National Sports Governing Bodies. Jack Wyant from the University of Pennsylvania was named National Coach of the Year, Terry Eagle of the Cate School in California was named the Developmental Coach of the Year while Alec Wysoker was recognized as the Volunteer Coach of the Year for his work with SquashBusters, an urban program in Boston.
Terry Eagle, has been the head of the squash program at Cate School in Santa Barbara, California since 1988. Cate is one of only five high school programs in California, and Eagles’s squad defeated them all this season, dropping only four individual matches along the way. In the past five seasons, eight of Cate's players have gone on to play inter-collegiate squash with three more expected this year to compete. Eagle is also president of the board for the Santa Barbara School of Squash, an urban program for children from at risk schools.
Eagle says: "It is the players who listen, respond, improve, and grow—that is the measure. The team worked extremely hard, gave up a great deal of time, and represented Cate with enthusiasm, effort, and terrific sportsmanship everywhere they went, up and down the West coast, and even once to New England. I am proud of their efforts and acknowledge this award to them."
