College Counselors

Emilie Griffin
805-684-8409 x248
Co-Director of College Counseling
BA, Goucher College
Appointed: 1985
Emilie grew up in a Navy family and spent her early years moving all around the United States, including Hawaii. Although changing schools every two years was difficult, she learned a lot about being adaptable and loved every place she lived. After graduating from Goucher College with a BA in English and Secondary Education, she began her career in the Baltimore, Maryland public school system teaching 8th grade English. She then taught reading and English for six years at a private boys' school in Massachusetts.

In 1985 she made the move across country to teach English and serve as the assistant dean of students at Cate. Emilie began working in the college counseling office in 1986 and became the Director of College Counseling in 1990.

Emilie enjoys college counseling because of the close contact she has with students helping them through the college process. She also finds it rewarding because of the relationships she has built with admissions counselors over the years, both at high schools and at colleges. Professional development opportunities in the form of annual conferences, workshops, summer institutes, and invitations to visit colleges help her stay current on the ever-changing world of college admissions, and connected with her colleagues in the profession.

In her free time Emilie enjoys gardening, reading, walking on the Cate trails or nearby beaches, and spending time with her family.
