Faculty Spotlight

During the visit by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), the visiting team made special note of the unique and powerful relationship between students and their teachers at Cate. Their commendation read, " The Committee commends the faculty for their careful and caring attention to the lives of their students in and out of the classroom, for providing a safety net when students make mistakes, encouragement when they face challenges, and adult firendship to appeciate their growth and celebrate their gifts. The committee specifically and energetically applauds the teachers' selfless devotion to students' welfare."

Cate's core academic philosophy, collaborative teaching environment, and excellent students attract some of the finest educators in the nation. Currently, two-thirds of teachers have advanced degrees, and all are passionate about student engagement and student-centered learning. Faculty members constantly analyze their own classroom skills and take summer and sabbatical courses that extend their knowledge both in their subject area and in the latest effective teaching methods. They work hard to become master teachers and, with an average tenure of 20 years, Cate teachers provide a level of classroom expertise that is almost unprecedented in college prepatory education.
