Case Studies

Cate has participated in the Los Angeles independent school Case Studies Program for more than twenty years. Each spring 25–30 college admissions deans join us for a program co-hosted with the Thacher School. An invitation to this event is one that admissions deans actively seek, in part because the word is out that being on our campus, meeting with our students, and walking them through a mock admissions process is not only enjoyable but incredibly worthwhile.

All students in their junior year prepare in advance by reading sample applications. They then meet in small groups with an experienced admissions officer who leads a discussion on what his or her college looks for in an applicant, and what every college values. Students learn first-hand how they will be evaluated, which helps them begin to think of the qualities and strengths they bring to the process. Our students benefit enormously from this annual event, through both the contacts they make and the ideas they explore.
