Alumni Volunteer Opportunities

Alumni of Cate School are cordially invited to serve Cate in the following ways:

Attend Regional Cate Activities

Connect with other alumni, parents, and friends of Cate by attending regional receptions and/or service opportunities in your area sponsored by the School. Look for announcements and invitations by mail, email, and at www.cate.org/alumni.

Join the Alumni Council

The Alumni Council serves as a leadership forum for alumni/ae to contribute their energy and resources to the betterment of Cate School.  In a word Servons.  Every person who attended Cate School for at least one year is considered an alumnus and is invited to attend and vote at Alumni Council meetings.  The Alumni Council's main objectives are to organize regional events, help Cate's Director of Technology plan and develop Cate School's technological policies, facilitate career networking and mentoring (see below) for Cate alumni, and provide support for class agents. If you would like to be involved with the Alumni Council, please contact Alumni Relations Director Andrew MacDonnell at andrew_macdonnell@cate.org.

Become involved in Career Networking and Mentoring

The Alumni Council Networking Program has a two-fold objective.  First, it helps alumni/ae of all age groups find internships and career opportunities. Second, alumni/ae may list themselves as networking contacts to help other alums seek employment in their industry or region. This program is not only for recent graduates, but for any alumnus/a seeking employment or looking for ideas in a new industry or location.

If you would like to be involved or want more information about upcoming Career Networking events, please contact Alumni Relations Director Andrew MacDonnell at andrew_macdonnell@cate.org.

Become a Class Agent

Peer-to-peer connections are important in building relationships that will help sustain Cate.  Class Agents play a vital role in both Cate's fundraising and non-fundraising efforts and are enormously important liaisons between the School and alumni.  Cate relies on the assistance of Class Agents for obtaining updates on classmates, soliciting Cate Fund gifts, and increasing participation in a multitude of Cate alumni events.  Each Class Agent is given a small portion of their class with whom they are responsible to maintain communication and school spirit -- helping to ensure the cohesion and continuity of their class with Cate.  This is a critical role, but one that can be fun and rewarding.  For more information, or to become a Class Agent, please contact Alumni Relations Director Andrew MacDonnell at andrew_macdonnell@cate.org.

Become a Reunion Chair

Each class has a handful of Reunion Chairs that are put in place the year preceeding the class reunion.  Reunion Chairs have many of the same responsibilities as Class Agents, but with the added duties of working with the Alumni & Development Office to plan reunion activities and communicating with the class about the upcoming reunion.  This can be an especially rewarding opportunity, as the year-long effort culminates at Camp Cate, Cate's alumni reunion weekend! For more information, or to become a Reunion Chair, please contact Alumni Relations Director Andrew MacDonnell at andrew_macdonnell@cate.org..

Participate in a Phoneathon

The Alumni & Development office holds approximately two phonathons each year to assist in annual Cate Fund fundraising efforts. We need support from alumni for these important (and enjoyable) events. By volunteering at a phonathon, you have the opportunity to meet fellow alumni in your area and to catch up with classmates from all around the country. No phonathon or fundraising experience is necessary. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Alumni Relations Director Andrew MacDonnell at andrew_macdonnell@cate.org.

Volunteer for the Cate Fund or Centennial Campaign

Invite others to join you in supporting the School by becoming a Cate Fund or Centennial Campaign volunteer. Those interested in making calls on behalf of the annual fund may contact Cate Fund Director Hallie Preston at (805) 684-4127, x286 or hallie_preston@cate.org. Those interested in reaching out to donors to the Centennial Endowment and Capital Campaign may contact Assistant Director of Development Grayson Bryant ’95 at (805) 684-4127, x266 or grayson_bryant@cate.org.

Host a Regional Reception

The Alumni and Development and Admission Officers are always grateful for opportunities to gather Cate friends together in the comfort of a home, both around the country and around the world. Contact Alumni Relations Director Andrew MacDonnell at andrew_macdonnell@cate.org to coordinate an event at your home.
