Message from the Director

When I first visited Cate, I was in 8th grade and in the midst of deciding where to go to high school. I ultimately chose Cate. The reasons for that decision are still in force today: a rigorous and stimulating curriculum, a chance to explore new things, a passionate and dedicated faculty, and the potential to develop life-long friendships. Now, twenty-five years later, I work and live at the School, helping you and your family learn more about the Cate experience.

The School has changed remarkably in those twenty-five years. Cate is now a national leader in diversity, with a student body that hails from 23 states and 13 countries and includes 41% students of color. We also have increased our financial aid program and now distribute over $2,500,000 each year to 30% of our students. On the other hand, much about Cate remains the same: the intimate class size averaging 10 students per section, and course offerings that vary from Japanese to AP Environmental Biology. However, these are just numbers; you need to visit to get to know the people behind them.

Choosing a school is a multi-faceted process. A website can never give you all the information you'll need to truly know a school, but I hope ours will help you get started. Then I encourage you to schedule a visit to really see us in action.

We look forward to getting to know you, and would love to introduce you to our students, our teachers, and the school we make together.

Please contact us for more information and to schedule a visit.

Warm wishes,

Charlotte Brownlee '85, Director of Admissions
