Arts |
Foundation Arts for all students and one additional unit. All sophomores take at least one 0.5 unit course. |
English |

Foreign Language |
Successful completion of a third-year course; students entering with an advanced knowledge of a language must either take that language through the sophomore year or study another foreign language through |
History |
One course in each of the first two years, and United States History in the junior or senior year. |
Human Development |
Freshman Seminar for 9th grade students and Sophomore Seminar for 10th grade students. |
Mathematics |
One course per year through the junior year, with the final course determined by the initial Cate entry level. All students are required to complete Algebra II. |
Science |
Three years of science. Physics is taken in the freshman year, chemistry in the sophomore year and a life science (either AP Biology or AP Environmental Science) in the junior or senior year. |

The Cate instructional program helps each student become an articulate, independent thinker. As freshmen and sophomores, students build and reinforce fundamental skills, taking courses in English, history, art, math, science, foreign language and human development. Juniors and seniors then choose from more than 35 elective courses in order to both pursue greater mastery of a topic and explore their personal interests.
