Hello. My name is Rey. This is my third year at Cate, and I am so excited to be a senior, but I'm also sad about it being my last year here at this amazing school. This is my second year living in the High House Dorm. When I first came to Cate, the school was not new to me because I had an older brother attend this school and graduate in 2007. His love for Cate was so big that I needed to check this school out and see what it was all about.
Classes at Cate are so much fun whether you are taking an art class or an academic class. Last year my favorite class was English 11 because my teacher somehow managed to get our class to have interesting discussions on the books we were reading. Books like Walden in the Woods or The Scarlet Letter, were a little heavy, but were really fun to read.. This year my favorite class is AP American Government, because we get to have interesting discussions about the current health care crisis. Another one of my favorite class this year is Sophomore Seminar, where I am currently a Teaching Assistant.
If you are a Cate student, you not only do academics, but you also play hard. With so many choices of sports to play, you are bound to choose what you like and excel in whatever sport you choose. This fall I am participating an Fitness. In the Winter, I will play squash, where the team gets to travel to the LA area and the Bay Area to play in tournaments. In the spring, I play volleyball, where I will play as alibero for the varsity team for the third year.
Besides Sports and Academics, there are plenty of things to do here. On the weekends, The Activities Committee, which I am a part of, organizes events for the students. These events range from Movie Night on senior lawn to ice skating in Ventura.
The people here at Cate are friendly as can be. When I first arrived to the Mesa, I was blown away by the openness and the friendliness of the students and by the faculty. I choose Cate for many reasons. The small class sizes allow me to better understand the lesson and ask questions about information that is difficult. The diversity at Cate is quite remarkable, and it's great to make friends who live all over the globe.
