Information for International Students

Cate welcomes applications from international students. Their applications are considered in the same pool as the domestic applicants and they are held to the same standard. Because Cate does not offer courses in English as a Second Language, we expect all international students to be fluent in English.  19% of the current student body are international students hailing from 15 different countries.

Testing

We require that applicants applying for ninth, tenth, or eleventh grade take the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) or the Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE) and that the scores be forwarded directly to Cate School. In order for your scores to arrive before the application deadline of January 15, 2011, we suggest that you register for the SSAT no later than the January testing date. Eleventh grade applicants may submit SSAT, PSAT, or SAT scores.

SSAT:  Visit their website or call (609) 683-4440. The Cate School code: 2170
ISEE:   Visit their website or call (800) 446-0320. The Cate School code: 050485
We only accept test scores directly from SSAT/ISEE; we do not accept copies from your school or consultant.

TOEFL:
Because Cate does not offer English as a Second Language, all candidates must demonstrate proficiency in oral and written English. It is required that non-native English speakers take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Admitted students typically score above 100 (out of 120) on the internet-based test.
Visit their website or call (877) 863-3546 or (609) 951-1100. The Cate School code: 8529

Interview

All applicants are required to have an interview with Cate School. If an applicant is unable to visit the campus for an interview, the Admission Office can arrange an interview with the applicant via telephone or cyber broadcast once the rest of the application is complete and received by our Admission Office.  If you have the ability, it is recommended for you and your parents to have a campus visit and interview when school is in session. Please call the admission office at (805) 684-4127 ext. 217 to arrange your campus visit and interview as soon as possible.
