Every year, parents watch their children blossom in Cate’s rich and supportive environment. Students return more enthusiastic, athletic, vibrant, respectful, creative, and mature than when they left home. With the knowledge that tuition covers only about 70% of the cost of a Cate education – a disparity of $16,200 per student – many wish to “close the gap” for their children and others through gifts to the School.
This year, Cate parents have already given or pledged $470,000 toward our $550,000 goal – thank you!
In recent years, participation from current Cate families ranks Cate among the very best in the country. The high level of support Cate receives from current parents is an essential component when Cate submits foundation requests.
· Parent participation is currently at 63% – we need 73 more families to reach 100%.
· So far, giving is up this year by nearly $100,000 – let's keep the momentum going!
· Our goal is to have 100% participation by Parents Weekend on April 26.
More than 200 alumni, parents, and friends actively volunteer to support the mission of the School. We are enormously grateful for the work they do on behalf of Cate and in particular, we appreciate the efforts of parents who connect with other families in their child's classes.
All gifts must be received by June 30, 2013 in order to be listed in the 2012-13 Annual Report. For more information on the Parent Fund, contact Colin Donovan.
f SeniorsParents of seniors are asked for a gift to their child's Class Fund, which is a gift to the endowment, given over time. This often means a gift of principal instead of from the household checking account. Unless parents have a younger child at the School as well, they will not be asked to give to the annual fund.
Over the years, senior parents have given over $8.2 million to Class Funds--over $6 million to the Endowment, two faculty homes, and the infrastructure for CateNet. Many of the same families who have given to the Class Funds have also created family funds or given to a capital project in honor of their Cate Senior.
Last year, the Class of 2012 raised $1,867,325 with 87% of families participating. Of this, $467,325 was placed in the Class of 2012 Fund, with the rest of the money placed in other endowed funds. For more information about the Senior Class Funds, contact Chris Giles.

While at Cate School, students form lifelong bonds – and so do parents. Cate School invites all parents of alumni to continue to stay active in the Cate community. Former Parents are always invited to come to the Mesa for Cate athletic events, art shows, theatrical performances, and musical concerts. But there are also events designed just for parents of alumni! Each year parents of alumni are invited to participate in the Alumni Parents League Reunion Weekend. Keep an eye on your inbox for more information, or for more information contact Jennifer Jarvis in the Advancement Office.
Cate School appreciates the myriad ways parents of alumni support the school. Where an honorary Class Fund exists, parents are invited to continue to contribute to the value of their child's endowed Class Fund. Parent of alumni interested in establishing their own named fund or seeking naming opportunities on capital projects on the Mesa should contact Chris Giles.
