Boys Varsity Tennis vs Foothill

May 17, 2017

The Rams boys tennis team (18-0) kept their season alive by the slimmest of margins on Monday, May 15. Cate went down to Santa Ana to battle Foothill High School. The two sides battled to a 9-9 tie, with the Rams taking the advantage in games 70-69. Brothers Kevin ’17 and Ethan ’20 Ha won six sets in singles for the Rams dropping a combined five games.

“We really felt the loss of Nicholas Hildebrandt ’18, one of our top doubles players, who is out the rest of the season with an aggravated back,” Cate Head Coach Jason Saltoun-Ebin commented after the match. “But we pulled together as a team and fought for every point. Charlie Morris ’18 and Brad Gordon ’19, our number one doubles, were down 5-1 in the last match of the day and easily could have lost that set 6-1. Inst, ad they fought hard and got one more game to clinch the win for us.”

“Of course I can’t say enough about Kevin and Ethan. We are really lucky to have them at the top of our ladder and they showed yet again how much they wanted to win and really just did everything they could to help us get there,” added Saltoun-Ebin.

Cate now moves on to the CIF-SS Division 3 Semi Finals against Buckley. That match will be played at Cate on Wednesday, May 17.
