The Cate baseball team started off Frontier League play with a convincing and historic 6-1 win over Thacher on Wednesday, April 12. The Rams were paced by Joel Revo ’17, who spun Cate’s first no hitter since 2009.

The Rams had big days at the plate from Patrick Armstrong ’18, who was 2-4 with a double, and Jack Deardorff, who went 1-3 a double and 3 RBIs. Bryce Huerta ’17 had hit on the day as did Emily Burns ’18, who had a double and a run scored.

The story of the day was Revo ’17, who shut down the Toads all afternoon. The left hander went the distance, striking out 8, walking one and hit two Toads. He was helped with some fine defensive plays by catcher Ethan Cassulo ’19 and Chris Bennett ’18.

“What a day. Anytime you can beat the Toads to open up league play it’s special. Adding on a historic performance onto that is icing on the cake. It was certainly a fantastic outing by Joel but it was a great team win overall. We had players step up today and we are going to need that sort of effort going forward,” said Cate assistant coach Dave Soto.

The two rivals will finish their two game series on Friday, April 14 at Thacher. First pitch for that contest is 4:15.
