On Tuesday, February 28, the Cate boys varsity lacrosse team played Valencia High School in a heated contest lasting over two hours. The Vikings came away with a 19-11 victory over Cate, with the Rams making them earn every inch.

Led by Chris Figueroa ’17, Ben Jessup ’18, and Will Bowlin ’18 the Rams played with heart and showed that they wouldn’t go down without a fight. The first half was a back-and-forth affair ending at 6-5 Valencia.
Bowlin lead the team in scoring with an impressive six goals and one assist. Also contributing to the eleven goals scored were Jessup ’18 with one goal and one assist, Caden Cutter ’18 with one goal and two assists and Pierce Lundt ’17 with two goals and one assist. Supporting the offense were a plethora of underclassmen who did a great job in their roles.
Defensively, Cate had a tough time sliding to transition players, which led to easy goals for Valencia. Nico Athanassiadis ’18 , Noah Meyer ’18, and Sebastian Sak ’19 anchored Cate’s close defense unit, while Andy McHarg ’18 assisted at LSM.

“Despite the goals our team let in, we dominated the ground ball war 27-16 and the faceoff 15-6 and I can’t wait to see how the guys develop their defensive unit this season,” said Cate Head Coach Mackie Greason ’12.
