Seniors Flora Hamilton and Zac Towbes practice in the chapel. Hamilton and Towbes are two of the siz students that will be going to New Orleans to perform at the Crescent City Jazz Festival in March.

Seven Advanced Jazz Band students have been invited to perform at the Crescent City Jazz Festival in New Orleans from March 9-12. The band will perform several gigs, including a public performance in the French Quarter on Saturday. The students include Zac Towbes on bass, Flora Hamilton on piano, Colin Stevens on drums, Bryce Huerta and Nick Thomas on alto sax, Cambria Weaver on trombone, and Luke Beckmen on trumpet.

On Friday night, the campus will welcome its second “Coffee House” of the year. Coffee House is an event in which faculty, students, and community members show off their performing arts talents in a fun, laid back, and supportive atmosphere. The McIntosh Room will be home to singer-songwriters, beat poets, actors, and rock bands while audience members sip drinks and snackĀ on cookies.

Cate recently refurbished its three grand pianos. The intensive work was done by Santa Barbara piano technician Jim Connolly and involved replacing the action and restringing the instruments. The pianos include the venerable Steinway in the McIntosh Room, the Mason-Hamlin in the band room, and the Steinway B in the Hitchcock Theatre.
