Boys Varsity Basketball vs Thacher

January 11, 2017

Cate’s boys varsity basketball team hosted rival Thacher on Friday, January 6. As is the case whenever the two sides meet, it was a spirited contest with both sides playing hard. In the end however, Cate came out on top 64-49 for their first win of 2017 and first win in Frontier League play.

The Rams had three players post double-digit scoring numbers on the evening. Marko Pliso ’18 finished with sixteen points, Mason Mackall ’17 with sixteen points, Thomas Nettesheim ’20 with ten points. Mackall ’17 filled up the stat sheet for Cate, finishing just two blocks shy of a triple-double. The senior center posted sixteen points, eleven rebounds, and eight blocks.

“I’m very pleased with the terrific effort on both ends of the court for Thomas Nettesheim ’20, his second game back from a broken hand he suffered in tryouts,” said Cate Head Coach Andy Gil.

“This was a fun game to be a part of. We shared the ball well, limited our turnovers, and capitalized on the fast break. I loved our aggressive going to the basket tonight, able to get to the free throw line 26 times, although we only made eleven. I think a big difference and one thing we have really emphasized is being strong, and our 4 and-1s tonight it was evident,” Gil noted.

The Rams will look to continue their winning ways on Wednesday, January 11 as they take on Foothill Tech at Ventura College. That game will start at 7 p.m.
